Thanks for your detailed reply! I wanted to say seasoned and ready to use (I changed it now in my original text).

Yes it is spruce for reeds. BTW, by tinfoil you mean the silver foil we use in the kitchen? Thanks again

Sending WOOD overseas - how to package it?

Hi, I need to send some spruce overseas. The wood it seasoned and ready to use, so I want to minimize the absorbsion of humidity during the travel. Is it good idea to wrap it in some nylon material or not? I once heard someone ordered boxwood and since it came in nylon the wood became grey, probably...

Synthetic uilleann bags: Rogge vs Vinyl

Is there anyone who tried both the Rogge synthetic bag (I am not sure what material Andreas use) and Vinyl bag. What is the difference? Which you prefered and why? I want to try one of them for my extra Practice set. Thank you.
P.s. if you want to recommend leather, just ignore this post. Thanks

Re: MAPLE vs SPRUCE Chanter Reeds & High humidity?

Where on earth?....never mind. ...mybe my English is a bit rusty... What I wanted to say in my 3rd question was (for example) ==> you get a new CP chanter with spruce reed in it. Now if you live in Phoenix Arizona where humidity at afternoon can drop to 22% a spruce reed can be your best deal. But ...

MAPLE vs SPRUCE Chanter Reeds & High humidity?

Hi, Can someone experienced with wooden reeds explain what are the tonal differences between Concert Pitch Chanter reeds made from Curly Maple and those made from Spruce? Can they sound as good as Cane and is spruce closer than maple? Can they work also in Higher humidity (like 60% or higher) and re...

Reed Longevity

Hi. What is the average life time of a good chanter reed if you take good care and don't play in extreme conditions ? In my limited time I heard two different extremes. Some pipers reported using the same reed happily for 20 or 35 years, but on the other side, I heard opinion that 6 months is a good...

Recordings of G#, Bb and F nat key?

Hello,

Can you point me to some recordings on YouTube, where I can clearly hear the use of G# key, Bb key and F nat key inside the tunes, airs - I think slower stuff would be better, so I wouldn't miss them while listening! I only have C key on my chanter currently.

Thanks a lot

Re: Keyless chanters - Yes or No?

I know for someone who during the years came from 7 key chanter to 4 key, but he settled to play chanter with 1 key only. So it depends what kind of music you will play and what kind of chanter you have. I think this tradition of having keys comes from flat pitch chanters more than concert pitch. Ke...

I recently bought a Brian Howard practise set and the bellows are very small and very efficient! I heard Cillian O'Briain is using the same design, or mybe he changed something. My bellows are apr. 135 wide and 255 long (measuring the leather part). How much smaller Howard bellows actualy are? Can ...

SMALL bellows & bag

Hello, Do you know any maker who can make SMALL but efficient bellows? I own standard Kelleher bellows & bag which are just great, but for new practice set I want to try SMALL bellows. For the bag, I plan to build my own for start, using vinyl to experiment with shapes and sizes, but don't know ...

Playing F natural without the key?

Hi, Receiving Concert chanter with only C key, I was wondering if I will be able to play the F natural with the same effect like here: https://youtu.be/w4s_x2lG_Sg The note is played at 0.29 using the key! Any kind of secret cross fingering out there or half holing with off the knee chanter is the o...

List of Techers who give Skype lessons

I was thinking it would be nice to have a complete list of pipers who give Skype lessons curently , so I wrote a few I found. In this way anyone isolated can 1st listen their music and then decide which style he would prefer to learn. If you know someone else or you are the one, just add the name to...
