Everson raised particular concerns about nonprofit hospitals and how hard it is to distinguish them from for-profit hospitals Actually, from my experience, it's quite easy to tell. Non-profits are the ones that are well-staffed, treat both patients and staff with respect, and are generally decent p...

Michael - Ralph Sweet (Who I got the flute from originally) did the undercutting work to bring it into tune. He could probably re-do the work on the new foot if you drop him a line. Yup, definitely been considering it. P.S. You going to be at session this week? (Slacker!) Hopefully. I was all packe...

I've seen someone who uses a Fender "amp in a can" for violin. Hard to beat it for a compact, easily transportable package. It's heavy with the batteries, but hey, good batteries are heavy. I imagine it would work quite well with the proper microphone for a flute.

Well, as an update.... I did pick up the foot section that was on Ebay. Overall, it's a good news/bad news situation. :) Good news, it's in overall good shape, no cracks, no broken keywork, and it matches with the old foot, must be the same maker or shop. Bad news, the keys can't be transferred to t...

I've got a Low C from Alba. It's a very sweet whistle indeed. I've also got an older Chieftain low Bb whistle. Lots of fun to pull it out and play a jig on, folks at session keep asking what bus I stole the tailpipe from. The C is nowhere near as monstrous as the Bb (the Bb is 4" longer), thoug...

I've got a Treo 300 I use extensively. It also did not come with graffiti, but Handspring made it available at no cost. (much faster than keyboard) I actually have an SSH (remote login) app on it that allows me to remotely administer my servers in case of emergency. It's painful to do on such a smal...

Unknown. There are no makers marks anywhere on the instrument. It does resemble the German flutes I've seen, so it's a fair guess to say it's of German manufacture, however, it's merely a guess.

if the cap fits...
Y'know, that looks exactly like the foot section on the flute I have. I can't see any differences at all.

Thanks!!!

Hmm, i wonder if having someone make a new foot including keys wouldn't be less expensive than restoring the original foot keys. Just another option. The any way to find out is ask... Let us know what you find out! Because of the low-B, it's not a separate foot. The right hand section encompasses t...

To this day I still have serious reactions to anything with almond or walnut products...in a matter of minutes it will blister and peel the meat off the inside of my mouth...roof of my mouth, gums, lips. Not fun. Yikes! In your case, I'd stay away from anything that even touched almond oil at any t...

Oh, I have no doubts that the keywork will cost more than the value of the flute, but then I'm not doing it for investment value. :) The issue is, #1 it will cost far less than buying a new 8-key and #2 having some experience with tuning issues, etc in older flutes, I'd rather bet on one that's alre...

Repair/restoration of keys

I have obtained an old 10-key flute that needs some keywork (post-mounted). Specifically, it needs to have four keys replaced, the short F, low C#, low C and low B. The posts are all in place, but the keys are completely missing. The flute is nothing special except that it plays well and in tune. It...
