Re: Anyone own a Tony dixon 3 piece delrin? Upgrading worth
I have a Dixon 3pc from 20 something years ago that I learned on, I still play it a lot even though I have "better" flutes (Seery, Burns and Olwell). It's convenient to keep assembled, sounds good, is a very easy player and pretty much indestructible. It also makes a great travel flute. Ne...

Picked up a fife a couple of months ago...
It's a used Cooperman, it says "Regimental Model" across the head. Seems to be blackwood with what appear to be nickle silver rings but might be wrong on that. I've never played fife before but the price was so low that I figured it couldn't hurt to try it. The embouchure is a bit tighter ...

My new Olwell is almost ready!
Just got an email from Matthew Olwell this morning that my keyless blackwood Pratten is almost ready!
Right on time too, just a little over a year from the order date.
Just a little bit more....

Re: Patrick Olwell Website
I saw that a week or two ago. Aaron Olwell announced it on their Facebook page. He said he wanted to put together a Q&A/Blog type site for a while and they just got around to doing it.

Re: Now I went and did it ... ordered an Olwell
Congrats! I'm at over 13 months waiting for mine at the moment, so be prepared for it to be more than a year! I was quoted around 10 months when I ordered...but I know that was just an estimation. I expect they may have had an uptick in orders since Michael Grinter's unfortunate passing, so they ar...

Now I went and did it ... ordered an Olwell
So after years (over a decade :o ) of putting it off, I finally got around to putting in my order for an Olwell Blackwood keyless Pratten with a French lined head. It’s going to be a long year :) I’ve got a lot of work to get myself in shape to be worthy LOL. I’m also waiting to get back my Casey Bu...

Re: Olwell Keyless waiting list update
You do realize that the poster, Jim Stone, is THAT player...sound lovely Mr. Stone! Nope didn’t realize it but my observation still stands. Players are pretty much the single biggest item that makes a flute sound like it does IMHO. (I think design second and materials third) but I’m sure that argum...

Re: Olwell Keyless waiting list update
FWIW, here's a Nicholson. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKJAjQGrwFc Thanks, I think I need to hear a few. It doesn’t sound like it has the pop of the Pratten in that video but it may just be that player. Sounds good though... I’ll probably end up with a Pratten but it never hurts to check out the...

Re: Olwell Keyless waiting list update
Thanks for the info. I am deciding what I want to get from him right now and will probably be putting an order in after tax time. I have a few other instrument related expenses to get past as well (Flute sent to Casey Burns to add rings and slide, Picked up a used Martin J-40 that needed some work s...

Re: Tuning Slides
I have flutes both with and without a tuning slide. Both work equally well for tuning as far as I can tell but I think the tuning slide does look better then pulling the tenon out a little and usually it slides a little easier so you can make finer adjustments.

Thank You Jon C - Seery Ebony crack fix
Got my Desi Seery Ebony flute back from Jon C a few days ago. The crack repair is excellent! I didn't realize how much air was being lost on this flute due to the leaks because the second octave is much more stable and even into the 3rd octave is much more workable. Previously I could get 2 and a ha...

I got in contact with Jon C and we are hashing out his schedule and whatnot so I can get this over to him.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Beginner Irish Flutes
Well, if the size of the bore is the issue and you want something pretty bullet proof, I think Hammy Hamilton may have something for you... http://www.hamiltonflutes.com/Practice_Flutes.html Alternatively I suspect a Dixon 3 piece polymer might work well for you. The holes are on the smallish side a...

Need advice on a repair person...
I have a crack on though the embouchure on my Seery blackwood (fully lined head) that only opens when the humidity drops. It doesn't effect the playability at all apparently but I'd like to get it fixed. It wasn't an expensive flute (picked it up here used a while ago) but it is a nice, if quiet pla...
