Ever see the movie "Waking Ned Devine"? Very funny Irish movie.

Anyway, in the funeral march scene, the whistle player plays out one side of his mouth (left, I believe).

You should email that link to the person who sold you the whistle. If it were me, I would love to here what it sounded like.

I know lots of people will not agree with me, but I wouldn't buy any of them. Uhg. They're hard to play and they don't sound good. And when you're just starting, hard to play is not what you need. The Clarke is particularly bad, unless you're good at reworking the thing. Okay, I can't say that about...

I read somewhere that to half-hole just straighten your first knuckle (the one closest to the tip of your finger -- you kind of have to bend the middle knuckle to do it, but you don't have to move or lift your finger). It's kind of like doing a little double-jointed thing. It lifts the finger just e...

I disagree about learning to play on the cheapies. My early playing on my Clarke and Walton was fine, nothing great; but it really got bad the higher I got. I just couldn't get the hang of it. Then I got my Hoover Traditional Bore. What a difference. My playing improved so much immediately. Not bein...

I'll second (third) the suggestion to get a Hoover. Don't even need the narrow bore. I have the traditional bore. No one at my house complains when I play that one. But my six year old complains unceasingly if I play anything else.

Thanks, Mack!

I have a Hoover traditional bore. I find it much easier to play than the narrow bore. Still, it is very quiet and sweet sounding. It's the only one my six-year-old son doesn't complain about (no, I'm not THAT bad a player -- he just thinks they're noisy). I think mine is in tune with itself. And it ...

do you have any idea if there are any sites out there which have the music tunes in the numbered version as opposed to the sheet music
The site for Erik the Flute Maker has a lot of songs with number notation only.

I just got a Christmas Shipment from the Whistle Shop. New tuneable Dixon High D and SweeTone C. I must say that the Dixon is the easiest whistle to play of any I have. It doesn't squeak or get clogged. It is not shrill on the high notes. It has nice volume and a pure tone. I really like it. An exce...

My husband plays classical guitar. I would like to get my hands on some beginner-range duets for whistle and guitar. Greensleeves would be great -- Christmas is coming, afterall.

I agree with Loren. The tabliture will become a crutch that really holds you back. Use it to memorize a few tunes so you can concentrate on your playing technique. Then force yourself to read the music. If you start with really simple tunes, it's not that difficult. You'll be surprised how fast you ...

I am looking for a good program for musical notation -- one that will also transpose and play back what you have set down. I have downloaded the trial software for three programs. Each had some features I liked and some I didn't. Two were $79 and one was $599. I would prefer to spend under $100. Is ...

I am using the Mel Bay "Fun with the Tin Whistle." It is very elementary, which is where I'm at right now. I have been playing with no tonguing at all except for repeated notes. Then I listened to the tape that came with it and noticed that nearly every note is tongued. Isn't this odd? Wha...
