Sorry for the newbie question, but I just checked the FAQ and searched it for "pressure" and didnt find what I was looking for.

What is "back pressure" when dealing with flutes?

Thanks,

Basic Whistle Care? Heat?

All, Being a newbie to the Whistle, I'm wondering if there are any basics to care I should take. I guess there may be a FAQ on the main page, but the stream of consciousness style of the main page almost deflected me from struggling on through to the forums. :) Anyway, I kinda prefer human feedback....

OK these guys need a second phone line or something. I called their toll free number and the direct number every 5-10 minutes between 12:45 and 2:55 to no avail ... both lines were busy. At 2:58 I got through to the answering machine saying store hours are from 10-3. Man, has anybody ever got throug...

Man these guys must be popular. I've been trying to call both lines for over an hour so I can place an order. Busy. Grr. Then again it is lunch time.

OK I'm going to have to learn My Favorite Things on the whistle now. Darn, I'm too new to need this much challenge/desire. :)

If that were real, it would be the best thing ever. I'd love to learn recognizable jazz pieces on the whistle, though the key shifting and deliberate off-note out-of-key notes for effect might throw some of them off. I love Coltrane and Miles Davis and stuff like that. That's how I wish I could hear...

Cool. Does anybody have any explicit CD recommendations from "other" types of music that use the whistle? Specifically, I'd like to be able to just mindlessly whim-buy it on Amazon.com preferably without having to go through a 3rd party vendor via Amazon.com. Just click and go. Hook me up ...

Non-Irish non-Kwela Whistle music?

All, Can anyone recommend some music that features the whistle that isn't Irish, Scottish, Celtic or Kwela? Actually I would even be satisfied with getting the name of a reliable Kwela album just because I have no experience with the genre. I tried ordering 2 different albums from Amazon.Com and bot...

Fair enough. :) Still, it might be a little less daunting if Beginners 1 was Beginners 3. I would think a lot of beginners would assume at face value that Beginners 1 was hard. I did. Fortunately, I already learned enough songs from memory of melody that I enjoy the whistle, so I didnt immediately t...

Wow.

Nothing says "Beginners 1" more than something with 2x as many notes as you need to distinguish the melody. :)

Impressive though.

Granted, if you're playing other stuff other than irish/scottish/etc, you're much more likely to need other keys. Yeah, I guess I shouldnt admit this on a pennywhistle forum but I am kinda "neutral" towards Irish, Scottish and Celtic type music, as well as Bluegrass and Folk and the other...

OK. I will try to avoid tabs. I also dont really want to learn some chart that converts a D whistle to notes based on the hole patterns, mainly because I use different flutes all the time. However, I'm not sure what the alternative is. Right now I'm just trying to ignore the tabs in my Mel Bay book ...

Thanks for the replies! Its one of those things, ya know? I'm pretty sure that somewhere somehow anything I write has been done 32 million times before, in part or in fragments, or is in my brain from hearing other stuff, but I just want to write it down. :)

I appreciate the linkage!
