First thing to think of is, do you want a tunable flute? If so, then you want the tipple.

I own a Miller bamboo flute and it is a pleasure. It looks cool, smells nice and has a breathy, reedy tone. I don't use it much when playing with other musicians since it is not tunable.

If I can also add, it can really work out practice-wise for you to play both a wind and a stringed instrument. For instance, I tend to eat dinner shortly after getting home, then have to wait for at least an hour before playing the flute. Now that I have a guitar, I can play around with that while m...

I too have been unfaithful to my flute, though not in the extreme. I borrowed my mother's guitar because my wife sings and I though it would be nice if I cold play a some simple accompaniment. My aspirations on the guitar are pretty low, but it is certainly addictive and very much fun. Not only that...

The ideal that some people seem to be describing here sounds more like a band playing a gig. If you really want to keep outsiders from your session, maybe a house session is a good idea.

I think number 3 from Guiness' list is the best way to deal with "offending" behavior...

That's so exciting you are going to Tokyo! I was there last year and played in a lovely session at the 'Cock o' the Walk' in the Roppongi district. Here is a link to the website of a flute player I met there named Yuta: http://www.geocities.jp/celticsession/yutahome.html It lists the times and locat...

Somebody here joked about publishing a session etiquette rule book, but it kind of sounds like some people here would actually want something like that. While I think it's a good idea for people to practice general politeness, attentiveness and respectfulness, to lay down specific rules and criteria...

I don't think I would ever walk out of my regular session because a new person showed up and wasn't practicing good etiquette. Why let some yahoo chase you off your own turf? As far as getting into a foreign session, I wouldn't so much wait for an invite (you could be waiting all night!), but rather...

Been there, done that, still doing it! I hear ya. What sort of flute are you waiting on?
I'm waiting on a keyless Olwell, how about you?

McGee's GLP is a pretty amazing instrument. I'm a Pratten guy myself, but every time I try a GLP, I am very tempted.
