Re: Learning material for beginning UP

I first learned from Leo Rowsome's tutor and I still think it's great. The one by Séamus Ennis is a must-have too IMHO, although for both, there's no tape or CD.

Re: Proper Bellows technique

Do it the way that suits you best, follow the instructions given above (Mr Gumby's) and adapt to the different situations you may encounter ( now and in the future), don't get puzzled by all the different things you can see (when you master the standard thing, you can get around). Here too, the most...

Re: Didier Heuline pipes

I've only tried two chanters and a half set by Didier Heuline, so have no experience with regs, but if they're like the rest, it's great work. The last Heuline chanter I played was top-notch, easy to play and great sound.

Re: Tips for Musicality

You say you sound robotic when you play, but how do you know it ? Did you tape yourself playing to be able to really listen to how you play ? That would maybe put you on the right track. It takes hours of listening to the music, especially some of the old players, and Mr Gumby is absolutely right, y...

French tionol 13-15 May 2016

Hi all, For those interested, a piping workshop will be held in the French Ardennes - very close to Belgium and not so far from the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany or even England - (in a lovely old house by the river Meuse), and so it might be of interest not only to French pipers... The guest pip...

Re: Starting out

When I started 20 years ago, I practised (on a half-set) at a friend's place in Kerry, and the dog would run away every time he heard the drones... The chanter alone didn't seem to bother him. But it bothered everybody else anyway ! :D

Re: Starting out

Another thing (once what Mr Gumby said is settled) : don't rush and take your time. It's nice to know about ornamentation but it might also be too soon to worry about that. When I started I was shown a lot of different ornamentation possibilities, and it took years before I fully understood what the...

Re: Ebay Items

An unusual listing on ebay US. Froment full set in B - US only, but the seller is in France. :-? :-? David Is it the same set that was on the French (European?) ebay several times, for a large reserve and no bids? Maybe the seller is just testing a new market - though this price is considerably lowe...

Re: Question about bass drone slide sections

A friend of mine did the contrary (replaced the U-shaped slide with a straight one) on his Kennedy set and it changed nothing.

Re: How to reduce the bag pressure needed to play my set?

If it's because of humidity, you may try and close the bridle a wee bit.
