I've only tried two chanters and a half set by Didier Heuline, so have no experience with regs, but if they're like the rest, it's great work. The last Heuline chanter I played was top-notch, easy to play and great sound.

You say you sound robotic when you play, but how do you know it ? Did you tape yourself playing to be able to really listen to how you play ? That would maybe put you on the right track. When I started 20 years ago, I practised (on a half-set) at a friend's place in Kerry, and the dog would run away every time he heard the drones... The chanter alone didn't seem to bother him. But it bothered everybody else anyway !

A friend of mine did the contrary (replaced the U-shaped slide with a straight one) on his Kennedy set and it changed nothing.

That happened to me once or twice. I logged out and then in again and it worked...don't know why...

If it's because of humidity, you may try and close the bridle a wee bit.
