Re: Designing the C natural oxxooo intune

Thanks guys, I am not using the computer, but rather making my own excell sheet (I like doing the math). I will aim for 12 cents flat then and see how it goes, I am making a separate head with a tuning slide, it allowed me to not worry about many of the lenghts while making the tube should also help...

Re: Turning Delrin Acetal

I highly recomend using a following spindle steady in the metal lathe. I don't know if one came with your lathe but you can most surely get one after marked, make sure you get one with ball bearings and not brass tips if you want to use it on delrin. I used mine to steady a thin steel mandrel (I mad...

Designing the C natural oxxooo intune

Hi all, I have been busy on the lathe and mill and got my self a nice 5/8 delrin tube with a 1/2 inch bore along with some brass ferrules. I was wondering if anyone had a good way of determining where to put the top hole to get C natural oxxooo intune, I read that a ~43% venting on this hole will ge...

Re: making a whistle from wood

thanks for all the advice. I am considering using delrin for my fist prototype, I will certainly simplify things, less movement, no rings to make etc. I have made a few from PVC plumbing pipe while in Africa, some were great some were not great. (keep the children amused) Now atleast with some repea...

Re: Newbie trying hard and needs advice

I think the best thing to do is:

1. Keep practicing
2. Listen to other Musicians who you enjoy and would like to emulate

If you want a really good book to help you get started I would suggest The Essential Tin Whistle Toolbox

making a whistle from wood

hello, I have been missing from here for awhile. I have been buying tools for making wooden whistles, and was wondering what size bore and out side diameter people like. I don't want to make a clunky whistle and i need to know the wall thickness before I can calculate my hole locations. All the whis...

Re: Perfection?

I think is would be hard to add carving to an existing flute not designed for it, carving is the act of taking away and if the object is already properly sized you could engrave but probably would not be able to do much else. You would have to leave extra material on the flute to make the carving wo...

Re: Balls!

Depends on who your audience is, I am an engineer and would say that the balls are elastic when treated as a whole, Steel is also elastic and when pulled far enough it becomes plastic, deforming beyond its ability to spring back all the way. "Plastics," polymers often act elastic if there ...

Re: "Henry Beck's Flute Book" (1786)

I suppose it is time an money. When I was living in Africa I had a book I really needed in the US and my fiancee, now wife, spent several hours, scanning it for me. It would make sense to make digital every thing that is requested to be copied.

Re: Please help me with the low D note.

I have a question about the low D or rather a "hard low D". What is it is supposed to be harder than? say the E beside it or G, or is every one talking about just a good steady D? :-?

Hang in there Mr. McGee, I would not call anyone who takes the risks and capital costs involved with stepping out and being self employed an amature, this is by definition a professional and in your case a craftsman (where the love comes in). People in this world probably don't get what they deserve...

What does Jazz do? with all this. you have a head and closing and the rest is your soul mixing with the souls of your fellow musicians for the middle with some really simple chord progression written as a frame. These were certainly written by people some are still living. They were recorded. They a...

To my friends Is not the tune the same animal as the instrument. We are allowed to play Prattens Perfected copies and to expand on them. Because they are old enough to be part of the public domain. We have copyrighted collections of tunes. O'Neil's, Ryan's... these prove the age of the tunes is olde...
