... And, as a bonus, you may help prevent unsightly rust. If doing so, preparing the surface properly is critical, so take some fine sandpaper and give the areas to be painted some light but complete scuffing up so the paint can latch onto it immediately and securely.

Re: Aulos Stanesby Flute

Thank you for those ideas!, I'll certainly give them a go. I'm not using the Stanesby for ITM, just to maybe have a go at some Hotteterre, leclair etc. I find it hard nowadays to cover the bigger holes on an "Irish" flute due to having ...

Re: Drilling Furniture grade PVC

I would put a wooden dowel (same diameter as the inside diameter of the PVC pipe) into the pipe for support and to help give a cleaner cut. Then I would drill a pilot hole (1/8"?) and use the right sized Forstner bit needed for that hole. A pilot hole will keep the Forstner bit ...

Tipple flute with or without lip plate

... the lip plate option. Has anyone compared the lip-plate 'model' to the one without it? I'm inclined to believe that the extra chimney height would give a PVC flute improved/stronger tone in the lower end, so I'm thinking about whether or not to look for a used Tipple with the lip plate vs. ordering ...
