... small rodents - it makes sense to also call the other G whistle a low G. It's never made sense to me to call the G whistle below high D an "alto G" since that translates as "high G" which it is not. Why don't we have sopranino, soprano, contralto, tenor and baritone whistles? ...

Re: Favorite G whistle?
The "Alto G" range begins at the G below middle C - just as the bell note on an alto G whistle ... on what most of us would refer to as a "high C" whistle.) Can't agree with your police work there, AM. The low D whistle's bell note is the D above middle C, and the ...

... other two but it costs quite a bit less and plays well. I've played a Burke and a Susato that were nice players too. Tommy Dion makes a nice PVC alto G too. And I'm sure Feadoggie makes a nice whistle, he just won't sell one to me. Yet. :D :D (hint, hint) ecohawk

... I also thought was very nice. Those are the only two low Gs I have experience with. As for the terminology, I've seen a few makers use the term alto for the range from (roughly) F to Bb (between low D and high D). Guido is one example. I remember a discussion on this board about whether "low ...

Re: Favorite G whistle?
Is it technically an alto G or a low G? I believe alto is Italian for high, I could be corrected. There is ... Irish whistle. I'll stop there. Don't want to cause any treble. Anyway, who has a favorite low G whistle? Copeland, O'Riordan, Burke and Schultz Water Weasel. I also make ...

Re: Best Alto G
Sorry I would love to help, but my favorite G whistles are the Reviol and Bleazey. Two very different instruments, but each are excellent in their own way. Unfortunately, you would have to part with a bit more money.

FS and WTB/WTT: A well made alto G whistle DONE
I need an Alto G. Had a Chieftain, didn't like it because it requires too much work to play. Sold ... chiff but in the lower whistles a clean sound is fine with me. If I were picking my favorite, it would probably be the Goldie/Overton or the Harper which are quite similar ...

... get better? Or practicing to kill time? A couple of instruments later, i found myself with a tin whistle, and caught the ITM bug. And traded up an alto flute for a 6 key. Still new to the instrument, but here is what i do currently. Fire up an mp3 i made with D/D' drones, and click on flutini until ...

Re: Any other beginners prefer a C whistle to D?
Not exactly a newbie, but C is about my favorite key in whistles. Hans listed some very good reasons, but mainly I just like the key of C. My whistles range from hi G to alto G; flutes fill in the low D needs. Whistle choices, in make & sound, are basically ...
