Bamboo Irish Whistle & Bamboo Irish Flute

Post by SJIBambooWhistle »

Hello. Nice to meet you!

I respect all of you who work in Chiff and Fipple.
I am a Korean and produce Irish flutes and Irish whistles made of bamboos with my husband in South Korea Some of them consist of metals like brass or duralumin.

My favorite materials are bamboos and brass. Do you like bamboos as well? 

I am really into those instruments…

I constantly desire to find the materials and sounds that I want, so I directly make them and my husband is a good supporter of me.

Frankly, we have our own jobs so that we just make small amounts of whistles and flutes. We hardly speak English, thus we do not take orders from other countries. However, we hope to communicate with you through our instruments some day.

The increasing number of Koreans loves themusic and traditional musical instruments of Ireland and Scotland. They are eager to exchange with professional and amateurmusicians including Joanie Madden, Flook, Vinnie Kilduff, Michael McGoldrick and The Chieftains, and to see their performances just like in Japan or China. So do I.

The following images are the Irish whistles and flutes that we make and also there are the samples of their sounds.

I would appreciate if you leave short commentsabout them.
(My playing is not perfect yet.)

I wish you all the best for you and your family.

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

What a remarkable design for the whistle heads! I haven't seen that before. And I like the tone. Well done.

Do you ever plan to make tuneable bamboo whistles?

Tell us something.: Whistling for 8 years after 40 year break from oboe, not enough puff for that anymore. Play gigs, sessions and for own amusement, though not cat's.

All I can say is it's a shame you can't make enough to take orders from the UK. Lovely instruments!

Very nice work! I especially like The Level Plain sound sample. Beautiful. Only one tip I can offer, and that's that you might try blunting the blade of the whistles a tiny bit. It should give it a slightly softer and more breathy sound - less recorder-like. However, that's only my preference. Others on this board will probably argue against that. :)

One question, is the head design similar to this?

Thank you~!^^

Yes. I'm making a tunable test.
Because the tube is irregular, making it difficult (ㅠ_ㅠ)

Have different ways of making (^^;)
Our production methods, it is a very tricky process.
