G'day Solo, I'm a new one here myself and by the sound of it, at about the same level as you so far. This mob seem alright to me and they're pretty quick to offer help and advice, which is bloody good for people like you and me. Welcome to the forum.

Advice?

Practice, practice and then there's more practice....

Listen to ITM

The thing I love about the whistle is it can be as easy or as complicated as you want.

Hello and thanks for the wecome Violinmyster

Can already play a few songs after a fashion lol and i am now going to attempt to learn "The Dawning of the Day". Singing or even humming the tune plus getting the fingers to obey are the most awkward for me lol. Never mind there's always practice, practice and more practice to iron out any errors

But don't stop there! :) Listen to EVERYTHING and then try to play it. If it's got a tune you can hum, it's a tune you can probably whistle. (Stay away from Do The Hustle and Sweet City Woman, they'll get stuck in your head for days!)

Before you know it, you'll be able to pick up a whistle and have the tune jogging around your brain come out in a recognizable, if not pleasant, fashion on the first try.

The more you reinforce that listen->learn->play process, the easier it will be to get to the innards of ITM.

Oh, and take your whistle everywhere. Play it at stoplights, in the park, at your desk, in the line up for Dairy Queen... :)

Welcome to the forums and to whistling!

I'm a noob myself (about 4 weeks). I practice almost everynight.

You might want to check out Ryan Duns tutorials on You Tube. I learned quite a bit there! There are also other players on You Tube...

I'd also reccommend the Irish and Celtic podcast by Marc Gunn
http://www.celticmusicpodcast.com/ - I learned Planxty Irwin from there - and there is a nice rendition of Star of the County Down... and more....

I agree with that!

..um - luckily I don't know the 2nd one - but - thanks - I have the 1st one in my head now.... :P

if you have otheres in your household, you might even hear them humming some of your tunes... :)

Have a great time with your whistle!

Hi,

Its incredibly addictive. Ive spent the last few months learning bits from the internet resources and cds.

:D

Have also been threatened on numerous occasions with the metal cutters...

Enjoy learning new stuff fellow nu-B.

Welcome. Do check out Brother Steve's tinwhistle site. It's the best deal in town to learn things. He has a paragraph or two about the two to three year Irish music obsession that might well overtake you.

Enjoy.
