Reopening the thread. The last poster has made his/her personal opinion known, so let's move on and let others contribute. And no obscenities and personal insults, please. When you reach that point, your argument is done. Thanks. - Moderator

Re: Interesting (?) - Killarney Whistles/Órlaith McAuliffe demo
As I ordered my Killarney Whistle one week ago I inquired about how long they have been in existence and the reply was approx. one year. I asked about inventory/backlog and the response was no large inventory, generally, whistles made a few at a time as per orders arrive. Although that may change as more exposure and orders occur. Basically, at this point there is no wait time... no more than a week from receipt of order until dispatch. Lastly, presently only the key of D being produced, but, other keys possibly in the future.
These responses from Killarney included that my whistle had already been dispatched... now where's that postal delivery truck! I know I won't receive the whistle before Christmas, doesn't matter, its in the mail! Ho, ho, ho!

I've got my Killarney whistle, and it's well-worth the asking price. Nice craftsmanship. The fact that another quality whistle is available does not detract from pre-existing whistles at all. We are fortunate to have many options when purchasing whistles in today's market. You might even say we live in the golden days when it comes to purchasing a whistle. So many excellent choices and prices to fit every budget. The Killarney is another very good option in the mid-range of prices.

Okey Dokey here goes....
Mine arrived this morning, I ordered it on the 19th Dec following Mr Gumby's post that day.
4 days, I'm in UK mainland so pretty quick considering that's over a weekend before xmas
so no backlog/wait at the moment.
The most important thing is how it plays and compared with my Thornton from 2007 and an
O'Briain Improved, and a Sindt in the not too distant past.
These are my early impressions.
The Killarney has a clean and pure tone, good bottom D and I really like the second octave,
although it's pure it's not bland.
The dreaded Cnat on a Sindt isn't an issue here probably due to the Feadog body,
it plays ok oxxooo with a bit of breath control.
For the first few tunes I did tend to over blow a bit, I play the Thornton quite a bit at sessions
which needs a little more push and a med/hard blowing Goldie with our band so the over blowing
was sort of expected but it was very easy to get used to.
It doesn't clog at all once warm.
I like the heavy Feadog Pro body, it gives the whistle a better balance (not so top heavy like a Sindt)
and I like the pin that holds the head together,
because it protrudes it stops the whistle rolling off the table and it's nicely finished.
The bottom of the body had a sharp edge to it but a quick rub over with some 360 wet & dry
sorted that.
All in all at £54 it's a great whistle and worth every penny. Half the price of a Sindt and not the 2 year+ wait.
It's obviously a Sindt copy and IMHO an improvement in some, not all ways but some.

I was going to add that as well but you beat me to it.I like the pin that holds the head together,

Was that ironic or did I miss something?no obscenities and personal insults, please
Played the whistle a good bit since it arrived and haven't really found fault with it. Does it for me.

Interesting. I DID miss something. That's what you get for logging off to play a few tunes. Ah well.

Got mine today as well.narrowdog wrote:Mine arrived this morning, I ordered it on the 19th Dec following Mr Gumby's post that day.

Yep, sweet, clean, even and predictable, with a truly lovely second octave. As sometimes said of the Sindt, a 'traditional' whistle done well. Probably closer to my silky Dixon DX203s than anything else I've got (can't push it, but it does exactly what you tell it to), but without their flat/burbly-when-pushed bell notes and (from memory because I don't have them to hand right now) a little quieter overall. The Killarney has a clean and pure tone, good bottom D and I really like the second octave,
although it's pure it's not bland.
Yep, OXXOOO, OXXXOO and OXXXOX all usable according to preference/context, with OXXXOO possibly optimum. So OXXOOO is workable (despite its slight sharpness) for those of us who like it, but not solid enough to put off those who prefer the longer fingerings. The dreaded Cnat on a Sindt isn't an issue here probably due to the Feadog body,
it plays ok oxxooo with a bit of breath control.
Edges of finger holes are also left quite sharp, which might bother some. The bottom of the body had a sharp edge to it
Have to agree yet again (best whistle I've tried at the price and better than most at any price)! All in all at £54 it's a great whistle and worth every penny.
Re: Interesting (?) - Killarney Whistles/Órlaith McAuliffe demo
I just sold off all but a few whistles because my fingers are suffering from arthritis.
I still check out the forum almost everyday and when I saw the post on the Killarney Whistle, I checked out the website and like a bass going after a shiny lure, I took the bait. Couldn't resist!
Over the years I've played a sample of almost every brand of whistle to come along, except for the newer makers. And I can say with all honesty, this is probably the best. There isn't one negative thing I can mention about it. Fair price, fast delivery and a fantastic whistle.
I'm glad I was able to last this long. I may not be up to the fast stuff anymore, but the slow stuff sounds so damn good on this whistle.
Fantastic!

Ach, stop it you lot...... I know I kinda started this (2nd hand), but I've been resisting temptation. You're not helping.
I respect people's privilege to hold their beliefs, whatever those may be (within reason), but respect the beliefs themselves? You gotta be kidding!

I can only chime in with a bold statement: Cancel you Sindt order and get the Killarney, it's every bit as good IMO..
(If not better, since i don't have to half-hole C-nat or graft a Feadóg tube on to get a decent cross fingered C-nat)
