A whistle ID please.

Post by NZJLY »

Gidday from sunny New Zealand. As a new player, I cannot tell what whistle is what. Can someone ID this one for me please? I suspect it is not "antique" but is it worth adding to my meager collection.

Much appreciated

Could be an old Generation. The shape and placement of the decal seems right. With a length of 240mm it is going to be high pitched, probably an F. Also be aware that it likely has a lead fipple.

Thanks for that, do you think it is worth getting at the price? (NZ $15 is about $11.50 US), and if it is a lead fipple, do I need to coat it before playing?

Thanks again,

The value to price ratio is up to you. It's not a lot of money if you like to collect such things. And yes, I would coat the plug before I were to play it. Although it's probably too late to save my brain from any damage. :)

Sure, a coating of clear nail varnish is the usual fix, and easily removable to preserve the original collector's value of the instrument.

Just to let you know, I am the proud owner of the whistle. :D Thank you for your help  .
By the way, how old would you say it was? (I am not expecting it to be ancient, but just out of interest)
