I'm sad to say that I don't think that has anything to do with being careless about differences between different groups of people. That, I'm afraid, is pure and simple racism, which is, I'm sorry to say, widespread throughout these islands.
What about after "9/11" when Sikhs got attacked in North America because they they wear turbans?
