WiFi Home to Shop Link

My instrument shop is located in a old factory across the river about 1/3 mile from the house and from my Ham Radio tower I have line-of-sight.

I'm thinking about these Cantennas and wireless gear (which I haven't used before). I would like to be able to access files on my computer at home from the shop via WiFi link. Plus, I don't want spend extra money on another internet connection.

Linksys makes this Wet-11 interface that could be connected to the Cantenna Antenna on the radio tower. I guess you buy one of these for each side of the transmission link?

Any better suggestions on a low cost wireless network. I'd prefer not to have cards on the computers because I want other devices to be active when the computers are off. Possibly a camera at the shop to check security.

This is a real low budget operation, I mean low. I have a Addonics Web Shuttle hooked up to my network so that two computers can share dial-up internet access.

Have you thought about packet radio? I looked into trying that a few years ago.

This may not solve your problem, but it's an interesting read about solving a similar problem.

The only thing I can tell you is, having installed WI-FI at my house and at my home, the signal isn't as strong as I would hope in wi-fi. You might have to buy a bigger deal than the typical wireless routers.

The Antennas will be pointed at each other fixed position point-to-point, it won't be moving around like a notebook computer. So as long as they are not blocked by foliage, the signal strength should remain the same except when raining (water in plants and certain amount of rain affects RF)

I want to do internet access and some activities regarding my whistle business, that rules out using Ham Radio Packet as it cannot be used for business. BTW - My call sign KA8ZPL

I've heard about people in WiFi range stealing service from others, that why I'm interested in a bridge instead of a router. All computers at my home or shop will be hooked up by by CAT-5 wire to the bridge units.

I've head that the bridge units can be given a specific address and only talk to other bridge units.

It's not too heavily populated.

Here's a link to show where my shop is in relation to my house.
Ignore the thumbtack symbol on the map, most map programs never get any Kings Mills address right for some reason.

On the north side of the river, three building up on the right is my house.
On the south side of the river is a big complex and if you look to the middle and then go down to the to where the land points like a V at the base of the treeline, that is where my shop is. The river valley descends and makes this line-of-sight.

I am coming out there in August. My daughter lives in Milford. My wife wants to attend a Decorative Stamp convention. I would like to stop by and maybe buy a low D. Is it possible? Do you have a retail shop or just a manufactury?

I would have to have it together before you arrive. It's a manufacturing environment not a retail shop.

Where's the decorative stamp convention? There's guy in our town who has a stamp store in Lebanon Ohio - he has a lot of stuff.

I calculated the distance to my shop by line of sight:
Apx: 525M or 570 Yards,
or 1710 Feet or 0.323 miles. So it's really not that far by air.

The convention is in the Sharonville convention center. My daughter says she doesn't know the store in Lebanon. I will probably give you an email a couple of weeks before I get there and tell you what I want. I just ordered a practice whistle but I will probably order a brass Low D later this summer.

Yes, it shipped today.
I'll see if I can find out about that stamp store in Lebanon, Ohio.

Sharonville Convention Center, there are some pretty good restuarants around there.
