I wanted to create this thread to make this information easier for newcomers to find. Making it more blatantly titled. Also to add some resources and invite further discussion. Please do post links or references!
There is an old thread, in which an inadverdent/accidental but excellent discussion of reamers and reaming took place, it is titled "Flute making apprentices" found at
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=105777
There are two articles, Comm 2060 and Comm 2061 in FoMRHI Quarterly No. 136 Dec 2016, in which Jan Bouterse gives an in depth look at some flute boring and reaming tools and techniques. Those are available at
https://www.fomrhi.org/pages/fomrhi-136 .
Or more specifically at
https://www.fomrhi.org/vanilla/fomrhi/u ... 202060.pdf
and
https://www.fomrhi.org/vanilla/fomrhi/u ... 202061.pdf
Plans for a wooden bodied reamer that can be made without much metal smithing skills, are available in "The Amateur Wind Instrument Maker" by Trevor Robinson
I'll try and get some more informative facty facts and quotes posted here soon.
