I'm excited! Just got an email from Michael Cronnoly, and my new keyless R&R poly, with tuning slide and joint rings should be on it's way very soon!

I've been practicing on a loaned Seery, but the largest tone hole is a bit large for me (12mm.) The largest tone hole on the R&R is 10mm, which should be more manageable.

As soon as I get it, I'll post my impressions. Since I am a beginner in most respects, this should be interesting...

Post your impressions by all means! I'm considering an M & E Rudall for a travel flute. I love my blackwood flute, but don't want to damage it on an upcoming road trip into the Mojave, Sonora and Chihauhan deserts from Seattle.

I just got an M&E R&R as a travel flute to take places where I wouldn't take my Copley Blackwood. It is a very fine flute.
It doesn't have the sound of a wood flute but I don't think anyone would expect a plastic flute to sound like wood.
It is a very well made flute with a nice sound. I plan on holding on to this flute for a long time to take to reenactments and on trips where it will be exposed to things that a wooden flute shouldn't be exposed to.

Yeah, I do a lot of playing in the desert atmosphere (Phoenix, Arizona) as well as doing the Ren Faire. Literally in the desert, for 8 weekends in Feb and March. Plus, I don't have the time/inclination yet to take care of a wooden flute properly.

I can't wait...I wonder if this is how expectant fathers feel?

Kind of similar feelings to an expectant father, but definitely not as reliant on the Postal Service!

(Uh, just to clarify, expectant fathers aren't as reliant on the Postal Service ... at least, my two didn't arrive in the mail.)

I'm both waiting on the arrival of a flute and of a baby. The flute is in some stage of development in Eamonn Cotter's workshop, far away in Eire. Now the baby travels around me every day in the most beautiful carrier
Much more exciting... and mysterious...

And if you thought a flute takes a lot of your time...

Congratulations on the baby and the Cotter! I just talked to Eamonn and should be getting mine from him next week... I'll post pictures and a review so you have something to drool over until the baby comes and your time for drooling over flutes evaporates into wiping up real live drooling.

Thanks Doirlinn.
Are you expecting a keyed or keyless?
How long did you wait?

6 keys, blackwood, in D, normal right-handed flute.

I put in the order last summer on instinct (certainly not intelligent financial planning, but ordering flutes with the heart instead of the brain seems to be common). I think it was the beginning of July, or maybe late June at the earliest. He quoted me 6 months, hedging to 9, so he's right on schedule.

I've heard since that his wait time has increased... when did you order yours? Keys? Estimated time?

I also ordered a 6-keyed.
Placed the order at the end of august and he quoted approx. 9 months. Yes, he mentioned business had been increasing...

We agreed I'd give him a call again at the end of february for a more acurate estimate of the wait time.

happy fluting!

I recently got a 6-keyed Ruddall Rose from Michael Cronnolly. I'm quite liking it.

It has a great sound and is super sturdy. I wouldn't be afraid to travel with it.
