Hey Folks,, I am a newbie and have a question.
I read that all the notes in "The Parting Glass" was supposed to be in the 1st octave. I thought i might be able to play this since my chanter doesn't like the 2nd octave. I am new to reading music, so forgive my ignorance, but there seems to be one note out of the first octive range about the middle of the song. I have not been able to find a fingering chart that shows how to produce this note. If anyone knows what i am speaking of, please post.
Thanks in advance.

The copy I found of The Parting Glass was in Am. When I transposed it to Em, I was able to get everything into the first octave, with the exception of the fourth space E's. Unless you can get your D really sharp, I don't know how you could play this tune in the first octave only. Considering where these E's occur (4 places), I think the tune would not withstand dropping them an octave.

I wonder if you mean the C natural?

The fingering depends slightly on the chanter/reed, but try one of these:

x == closed hole
o == open hole

x (back d)
o
x
x
x
o
x
x

Or:

x (back d)
o
x
x
x
o
o
x

Or:

x (back d)
o

o
o
x
x
