Well it's a miserable day over here. Nothing better to do but read those old TSC threads....YIKES! He seems to draw a lot of attention. Only thing I have to say, if he is REALLY so close to Mr. Spillane, you think he would at least be able to pronounce his surname properly in his youtube video! I'd imagine he'd would have introduced DS to some of his imaginary friends and DS would have to say, "Tal/Barb/whoever the #@%$ you are, that is not how you pronounce my last name". I have been corrected as such myself. Not from DS himself but other Spillanes. I have however met and spoken to Davy several times in phone conversations when I was going to hire him to conduct a UP workshop. For the record, we are not besties!
Sorry Mr. G...just now getting your point...yes, this thread should just disappear but I imagine there is some entertainment here for someone...I'll have to say, this is THE WORST THREAD EVER that I have ever posted to!!
Nano, He has never corrected me on it personally. Other Splllawns have. Not Spil lane like "down the lane"....Both my in-laws are native Irish speakers...I always used to use the "down the lane" but was corrected a long time ago. Not that that would be a definitive TSC not knowing him. I don't know how DS pronounces his last name...I suspect like most Irish but those from Dublin do have their own way with words.
Actually, there are many people who don't know how to (or who just don't) pronounce their own names properly, especially if you count anglicization, americanization, etc. I've been accused of the very thing myself. But I've always had only a tenuous grasp on who I am.

We shall not, we shall not be removed,
We shall not, we shall not be removed,
Just like a palm tree that's bending by the water,
We shall not be removed.
