F.S. - Alan Ginsberg Rudall $450

Post by Sillydill »

Currently offered for adoption is a Cocobolo Medium-Holed Rudall Model by Alan Ginsberg. The rings are sterling and the fully lined head/slide are brass with a nickel sleeve in the barrel. Unfortunately there were cracks (now mended) in the head and barrel (see pic), they are all but invisible indoors and are stable.

The design is somewhere between Rudall Numbers 5047 and 5088. The flute has a great voice and really sings, but the bottom D is no fog-horn. The flute doesn’t require a lot of air to fill, but does need a focused embouchure (very rewarding). I really like the tone from good Rudall type flutes with a fully lined head! The construction and playability remind me a lot of Arie De Keyzer’s flutes (though his are Pratten based).

Alan Ginsberg is a Welsh maker of Folk Instruments. While most famous for his Uillean pipes, he started off as a Flute Player and Maker.

Here is a link to PDF of the exhibit he did in 2006: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q ... Ppi_ah6oAg

I’m asking $450 to rehome this flute plus postage.

Trades and Offers will be considered.

Thanks for your consideration.

:o Price dropped to $400

People have asked about the cracks. They are tight and stable and hard to photograph! But here goes:

Please feel free to ask questions.

I would be very interested in a trade for a Baroque Flute! :really:

When you say the bottom D is no fog-horn, will you say a bit more about what you mean?
Is it just the standard Rudall low D, which takes some learning to play before it becomes
strong? Or what? thanks

Hey Jim, :)

It has the standard Rudall type Bottom D. This is a very good example of Rudall type flutes in most every way!

It just takes some finesse to get it to play strongly on the Bottom D.
