Forgot to add: There's a lovely Balkan tune (and brilliantly played) in 11 on the album I mentioned above. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nZMrVG0oRU

Newfoundland tunes, like Gerry Strong plays. Though I admittedly play them a bit more often on whistle, I'm still trying to get my flute playing up to snuff.

Edited to add: I forget there are videos online. Daniel Payne plays some Emile Benoit reels. Gerry Strong plays some polka-ish tunes. Danny Mills has posted loads of Newfoundland tunes, mostly played on flute.

Want to add two pieces from incredible flute virtuoso (virtuosa?) Nuala Kennedy !
Her first cd (red shoes) is really something! (and so the other ones).

J-M Veillon, as mentioned above. Must-listen for any timber flute player.

Sylvain Barou, another great Breton player. Persian, Greek, and Afghan tunes (as well as Irish and Breton) on his solo record. Lovely stuff.
Agreed and agreed! I like Sylvain Barou's album very much! Some Asturian tunes on there, too. On the track "Alborada", for instance, where he plays a tune that I've heard on a Llan de Cubel album, followed by one of his own compositions.

Llan de Cubel is another good band to check out if you want to hear some music from other traditions also being played on simple-system flute. I didn't mention it, because I thought the thread was wanting to know what we ourselves play, rather than music in general on simple system flute. In that case, there are plenty more I can add here, after I get some sleep.

Liked the Nuala Kennedy stuff, by the way! Never heard her before! I'll have to check out more of her stuff this week. Thanks for sharing!

I learned some nice sackpipa tunes from
Olle Gallmos Swedish bagpipe page.

http://olle.gallmo.se/sackpipa/music.php?lang=en

These lead me to the Fargo theme. It's Norwegian I think but uses the same scale
As the sackpipa. After playing about with the Swedish tunes it popped into my head.

Sirchronique, I had forgotten about that one. Such a gorgeous tune! Trying to think of the name of the band that Marcos Llope plays in...That would be worth checking out for more Asturian wooden flute music. The man makes excellent flutes, too, from what I understand.

The band I mentioned, Llan de Cubel, is the band of Marcos Llope!

The second tune on that Barou track is on one of their albums, as well. Here's the tune. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAuVbg6s2Qs

Tintin,

Here's my other favourite kind of "timber flute" music besides Irish: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6O0Z9WWHwo

Andreas Ralsgård and Markus Tullberg have a CD of traditional flute tunes from southern Sweden. My grandfather came from that area (Skåne). Markus is a member of this forum - Markus T.

Ah yes, I've been meaning to put that one on my list. Great stuff! I really enjoy Väsen (and I've been dabbling with some Swedish tunes the last couple of weeks--those sackpipa tunes are great, dunnp!).
