I owe you all, a clip of the chanter and now the drones, I hope I can record something soon.
To me they sound rich, not too loud, not too quiet, steady but to hear is more than to read
The main issue is that the owner went back to El Salvador this morning, so I have now all the ferrules and the bores ready to turn my own. Then I´ll post a clip.

Thanks God for the opposite thumb.

unknown chanter-help?
hi all
these pictures have been posted elsewhere in the past - no harm trying again eh?
and thanx to Denny for his help posting stuff.
Sorry for the quality I'll take new ones if asked.
My aim is to eventually have a toppeice and drones made in the same style but that seems to be a problem - no one, can identify the maker, after a few years pursuing this now I am still none the wiser.
Comments like, the keys look like so and so’s work or the mounts look like etc. etc.
All greatly appreciated but still no definite identification.
It’s on lone at the moment and may be use it for recording I for one look forward to hearing it in professional hands.
rough info
The length of the chanter without top piece is 14 5/16 or 364 mm overall (as close as I can get with a tape measure). The internal bore at the bottom is a hair over 1/2 in. (just under 13 mm ) and has a V shaped sprung brass tuning insert. It is ebony (very straight grained throughout its length) with four brass keys and bottom ferrule and ivory mounts.
Oh its in D

Just received these photos & had to share...
Taylor style tenor & baritone regulators in boxwood, ebony, & brass made by Michael Hubbert & grafted onto my Cillian Ó Bríain half set.
Mmmmm...
Needless to say, I am dancing around like a five year old in anticipation of receiving these in the mail. Will post another pic or two when I do...
EDIT: More photos:
My mongrel 3/4 set comprised of Cillian Ó Briain stock, drones, bag & bellows Gordon Galloway chanter, & new regs by Michael Hubbert.
I was too much of a cheapskate to get the bass regulator, so I got this instead...

Wow that is so cool, Taylor style in boxwood! Hubbert never ceases to amaze.
About my old Quinn chanter, somebody asked me "which keys does your chanter have?" and I replied "All of them!" (Sorry for the "Friends" reference.)
Anyhow that is a high D key it has, in addition to the normal G#, Bb, Fnat, and back C.
Quinn's workmanship is fantastic and all the keys work as well as when the chanter was new.

Those regs are dead sexy! I've not seen nearly as many Hubbert sets as I'd like, but they always impress! The Sporting Pitchfork wrote:Just received these photos & had to share...

Edited my post above to add another photo. I should also mention to anybody inspired by the photos above and thinking of placing an order with Mr. Hubbert is that while I'm sure he'd be happy to do more Taylor-style regulators, I think he'd prefer to do them in a wood other than boxwood in the future...
I'm very pleased with how the regulators on my set turned out, though. They blend well with the chanter & drones and they look absolutely perfect. Now if I could just figure out how to actually play them...I knew it would be tricky, but...Yeesh...

Got my Pat Stones Rosewood D narrow bore chanter back from Andreas Rogge workshop in Germany on Tuesday 14 Feb 2008.
1 new chanter top in cocobolo and boxwood/brass.
1 new chanter reed and 1 hours reworking chanter.
I am very pleased with the rework on the chanter. Just have to rework the Rogge reed a bit.
The reed I made with the original rolled staple by Pat Stones before I sent the chanter to Germany works great in the chanter
Will the cocobolo wood darken after a few months/years.
Cheers
