I was just going to point that out. The family farmer has some she uses for winter squash.

I'm sitting here looking at that thing. And then I think, Yeah, that's definitely safer to cut. And then I keep looking and looking at it.

They are easier to stack on the produce shelves, very popular in Japan.

Yeah, good point about the stacking. Nice and stable.

But boy, would one look weird cooling off in the creek.

I feel sorry for those square watermelons. I don't know why. Maybe its empathy. My feet feel sort of like that watermelon in most shoes.

I brought a knife and a mason jar to work. The knife is for when we have bagels. The mason jar is the only thing I had in the house that fits under the coffee maker. The coffee maker makes only one cup at a time.

I went to the store looking for food that wasn't wrapped in plastic. I came home with very little. Cheese is out. I bought large fruits and vegetables that didn't need bags. I found milk in a glass bottle. It's really good. I'm going to try making my own yogurt out of it in the future so I don't have to buy the plastic tub. They take back the glass bottle. I think I'll sew my own produce bags. I think if you avoided food that was packaged in plastic you'd end up eating a lot healthier.

We bought some chips in a compostable plastic bag. It still hasn't degraded in our compost yet.

For produce it is nice to have a see through bag (it helps checkout) something like this:

Darker colors seem to work better and smaller holes don't allow as many stems and parts to catch.

But really, that only has to be one side of the bag.

I get my fruit and veg delivered in a reusable cardboard box from a local farm collective - very very little packaging.

But it's terribly hard to avoid plastics.

On my party site I sell biodegradable disposable plates and cups which are very popular. Most dispoable printed party stuff is not recyclable because they are plastic coated.
Finally feel like I'm getting somewhere. It's only taken 6 years.

Right now my veggies come from our garden. But to get from the garden to the house I have to pass through the dog's territory. They apparently reserve the right to inspect everything that crosses their border. Reminds me of Arizona, back then, and now. Squash anyone? Remember zucchini grows whether you plant it or not. I'll have to sneak over to the neighbours and drop some off on the stoop.

I would do the CSA box but they give you too much. I have a small container garden but it grows better in winter when it's not so hot. Also, I find that tomatoes grow whether you plant them or not, not zucchini. Have also found volunteer squash hanging from the bamboo.
