I think is would be hard to add carving to an existing flute not designed for it, carving is the act of taking away and if the object is already properly sized you could engrave but probably would not be able to do much else. You would have to leave extra material on the flute to make the carving work. if the carving was only going to be on one side like the flute head around the hole it would be difficult, not impossible to keep the head round while leaving this wood to work. I sometimes dream of making a flute with some cool ornament to it, maybe i should shut up and just make a flute first
