I was holding off on the t-shirts and fridge magnets but as that door has been opened: Zazzle has twelve pages of whistle shirts that it won't let me hot link (phew..)

Other things to do now. Later.

I didn't mean to start the T-shirt images off but I guess I did while dreaming about whistle craftsmanship.

Here's the T-shirt link, however, I cannot speak for their quality nor reliability. I have no connection there as the ad was pop-up while searching.

But you did, you did... Image

The old C&F store still seems to be up though:

But there are others, a few here:

The main reason for holding off was that, a few nice ones aside, the T-shirts tend to rapidly descent into mediocrity and plain old bad taste. Stuff like this:

And I was holding off wading through that sort of stuff.

Here's another stamp:

All of those depictions of the whistle in Art should be put together in a sticky called something like 'the Whistle in Art'.

One of our local museums, the Getty, has a great painting called The Musician's Brawl. Not a whistle exactly, but a long thing with holes, and usable as a sort of a weapon

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

the Getty, has a great painting
That could open the floodgates for oboe and recorder images. I'd be careful with that.

That said, it did trigger a new train of thought:

Right, maybe we should stick a fork in this thread. We've gotten down to pictures of people brawling over a double reed, nothing new there. :) And now we're getting to whistles stuck up the nose. And all those "wolf whistle" stylizations. I think we're at a good end to this then. What do you all think?

Good bit of fun.

Thanks for posting the images. Some are quite nice work ... others, maybe not so much.

Did we learn anything about how the whistle is viewed in culture?
