A couple of the locals are growing their own. Cane, I mean. Actually I think they grow other things too...
I spent yesterday scouring Mt. Tabor (one of two extinct volcanoes within a US city's limits) for Bigleaf maple twigs, mostly for bass drones (only useable size generally), also wood whistles. That stuff can buzz like the dickens! Make sure your tree's up in the sun, if it's in the understory of conifers the wood will all be rotten. It's as pithy as elder, quite soft and brittle - you won't need a saw to cut the twigs, even with green wood. I've used a maple bass reed in my concert set for over three years now.

I've never seen a reed made from tree twigs, or elder, anybody have a picture of one of these.... :-?

Name the maker of this reed - bonus points to name the person holding it! :-)

The fact that its a b&w photo gives it away. The maker is Boris Rug, and it is being held by his son, Shag.

Do I win a prize? Do I? :boggle:

Wow! That's even better than a few sliders and a couple of gut grenades from White Castle. Pat, you're a lucky fellow!

Is it a coincidence that BK and DQ are in the same business both in pipes and in fast food? What are the odds of that? Wow, I gotta have more (or less) coffee!

Not a coincidence. Rather, part of a vast liberal-to-progressive conspiracy. The best response to such an exposé, on the part of the general public, is to have coffee, more or less.

Another LR? by the looks of the rusty bridle and chipped blade, I suspect an alternative to a rib-fest tooth-pick?
