David ye must have read ma post afore I edited it.I said originally I was going to move it over to the main thread ....and actually started to type it across under a new heading and then thought No....What is the point?I am frae a different generation to Brendan and a different generation again frae Jarlath,so old enough to be Father to one and Grandfather to another. As I am already one 5 times and the other 6 times I came to realise that no matter what I think..... they are going to do whatever they are going to do, regardless....and thats O.K.
I will now edit the post further to delete Discuss.Coz I can
This is not pipers angst but the realisation of fact.Discussion finished.

William, DJM is probably right in that this thread is not the place to get into this, it's way too complicated! However, here's a quick reply just to be polite. I'm not really that concerned, about the parameters and rules of being traditional. The harp was played in Ireland for a thousand years before the uilleann pipes played their first note, and the music and the instrument changed during this time. The pipes and their music are really only a couple of hundred years old, so there is still room for development. Myself, I play wire strung harp, uilleann pipes and low whistle. In a way these instruments represent three different ages of Irish music and they pull and draw me in different musical directions. A harp piece like Scotts Lamentation predates all of our traditional music, yet contains clearly the seeds of what was to come. The low whistle and much of it's music are new, yet it's technique owes a great deal to the uilleann pipes. All three instruments are different yet mutually supportive, demonstrating the value of movement and change, which is something I think musicians like Jarlath contribute to. William, we actually probably have a lot in common as of course I have the deepest of respect for the pure drop(although I rarely hear it), but from an artistic point of view I don't believe in placing restraints upon the creative process. I'll shut up now!

Brendan no problems. Tis better to look at the glass half full than half empty and of course music can be played as ye wish.I agree there isnae much pure drop around these days amongst the average muso but never mind.

We almost certainly do have a lots in common except how ye spell ma name o course
There is no W in Irish and I have never been called William in my entire life except on this forum ironically enough, given that it is aboot Irish Music

Australia's Dicky Deegan, plays an air and a jig. I have no idea about either of them expect to say that I have heard them before. The set is called Easter Snow:

I believe that is his D McKenzie set.

Cheers L42B :)
