Great. Nothing like a haircut to make things right. Unless it's like my last one- I too am a fan of the BOB. Unfortunately, my last haircut I tried a new shop- bad move- this is the second worst haircut I've ever had in my life. She undoubtedly had no idea...

Thank you! It is good to be tidy, but very chilly round my neck!! At least I don't feel quite so much like a freak when we venture out: what with walking diagonally, stupid stick, scars round head and neck (at least they can't see the one down my front) and hair that looked as though the dog had chewed it, I wasn't really doing myself justice. Now, of course, people will be so busy admiring my hair that they won't notice that I walk diagonally, have a stupid stick and scars round neck and head!

And I can have all my friends for dinner - that right, mute?

Why didn't I think of that?

Please don't answer that.

Americans (at least Idahoans) also use the word "scarf" to mean Eating in a great hurry (ie without much chewing) ie...scarf your food. It would be the same as bolting your food.

Neither scarves nor bolts have any other relation to food so far as I know.

As far as I know, here in England a scarf is only the woolly thing you wrap round your neck. Also known as a muffler, which might confuse some!

"Scarfing" your food is not used here; we would say "gobble" or "bolt".

Language is fun, isn't it?

We'll throw back the bolt, scarf the necks, and gobble the goodies, then! I'm in! Even if it is just a cyberfeast.

Where I live, you won't hear much talking of scarfing your food, but you just might wolf it down, especially if it's mighty larapin good.

Language is indeed odd. Once when I traveled to Wisconsin, two young waitresses took great delight in my accent and had me read the entire menu to them, which caused me mild puzzlement and them bursts of delighted giggles.

Go figure.

I have just thought that we do say "scoff" your food here, meaning to gobble or bolt it. We might also say "wolf it down".

People laugh at my accent too, James: I have a fairly standard "Oxford English" accent and am always being told I sound Scottish! That makes no sense at all to me!

As I said, language is fun.

Tomorrow we travel to Somerset to meet David's parents. I still hope they are happy with who his heart went to. It is a very odd situation, really, and impossible to predict, or to prepare for. At least I don't look like a cannibal now. (Yes, I am still nervous!)

Wouldn't it be interesting if Lesley started getting an overwhelming urge to play the theme song for Thomas the Tank and it turns out that David had a penchant for toy trains?

Good luck tomorrow, Lesley, though I'm certain they can't help but like you. :)

I'm sure we'll all be thinking of you and waiting for the report.
