Rudall & Rose #3232 Cocus & Ivory

Post by tstermitz »

I am putting my Cocus & Ivory trimmed R&R #3232 up for sale - $3,400

For obvious reasons this is only available within the US.

This is a smaller-holed Rudall & Rose recently repaired & renovated by Jon Cornia. Jon filled and pinned a crack in the head, which was NOT through the embouchure, repaired other cracks and floated new leather pads, adjusted keys and fixed leaks so the flute plays easily down to the low C & C# and up to high G. Flute plays at A440 with reasonable intonation using 19th C fingerings and lip adjustments.

See High Rez before & after Photos at:
https://www.photokinesis.info/Rudall-Rose-3232/

The flute has several interesting features:
- Beautiful Ivory ferrules contrast with dark Cocus.
- Claw interlocked C/C# keys
- Slightly offset third finger holes to help small hands
- Smaller holes which result in a sweet and silky tone, and make rapid note articulations easy.
- Cocus sheath over the slide, so you only see dark wood next to the Ivory
- Round, metal key-cups instead of flat strike plates for the pewter C/C# keys

I had Jon repair rather than replace the Ivory ferrules, therefore the cracks are still visible, and you can see couple of chips in the ivory head cap. Other than the mentioned repairs, the flute is in excellent shape with a clean embouchure cut, and lightly smoothed finger holes.

These R&R flutes require more focus for your embouchure than a modern style embouchure. This flute has a sweet tone that is more appropriate for recording or in a small salon than a noisy session.

My embouchure takes some time to learn a new focus when I change flutes, and I've been playing this flute more.

Once I zero in, the Intonation is good, and it plays easily for me from low C/C# to high G.

The small holes and slightly offset third finger holes make it very easy to play for someone with small hands.

Price Drop to $2999

I've lowered the price for my Rudall & Rose #3232 Cocus & Ivory flute. As I've said this is a beautiful flute that plays at A440 with minimal intonation issues. The holes are smaller, and the third finger holes are slightly offset for ergonomics.
