The Commitments

Post by ausdag »

Anyone know who the piper was in the scene where various people were being auditioned to play in the group in the film 'The Commitments'?

Just wonderin' 'tis all.

Cheers,

The UP player in The Commitments movie is Brian Mac Aodha

It could be an interesting topic: Uilleann Pipes In Movies
Film scenes with uilleann pipers and UP music in the movies, something like this http://fraser.cc/pipes/movies.html

I've always loved the way that all the musicians who audition are treated with scorn except for the piper! I wounder if Roddy Doyle or Alan Parker plays the pipes.

I turned the movie off as soon as I saw they weren't having a piper in the band.

I always thought it was an obvious understanding between the filmmaker and the viewer the pipes were a no-no.

I have some nice old pictures of your man and Donncha Gough when they were fourteen or fifteen. :D

A film that shows Jimmy Ennis playing the pipes in 1928 or so just surfaced this year.

Joe Shannon sat through a set of westerns twice just to see a newsreel feature that showed an Irish piper - most likely Leo Rowsome - back in the 1930s.
