Poll: Favorite Thanksgiving Pie

Post by alespa »

Okay, my favorite pies for Thanksgiving are Pecan and Pumpkin (I only voted for one). Given the reactions in my own family over this, I know this is a debatable thing. So fess up, what's your favorite pie (hopefully I listed them all).

Pecan! But my family likes pumpkin

So right now, I am going into the kitchen to bake both!

What's in the "Other" category? Now I'm curious. Is there a better pie than pecan or pumpkin??? :D

What a sorry poll! You forgot the most important choice - ALL! :D

Pumpkin is great, of course, but so is lemon meringue on a graham cracker crust still warm from the kitchen. Or apple, cherry, blueberry on a half-n-half crust (made with lard, naturally).

And you left out meat pies - hearty beef or chicken, a savoury tortiere, or even pigs in blankets.

And what about chocolate pie in its many forms and guises?

Not that I'm any sort of pie fan or anything ...

Ummmmm, pie!

I voted for other (though I do love apple pie, too). I'm not a big pumpkin pie fan.

My favorite pies would be French Silk and Kentucky pie (which is similar to pecan pie, except with bourbon and walnuts and chocolate chips).

I also love Banana Cream pie, but that's more a summertime type pie. Key Lime falls into the summertime category too.

My mom makes the best pumpkin pie ever. Tripple the spices.

It's my favorite pie and I've been known to eat a whole one.

Pie is one of my favorite things in the world! I lean toward pumpkin for Thanksgiving, but pecan's a close second (and I want the recipe for that pie with Bourbon!)

Kentucky Pie

1 9 " unbaked pie crust
1/4 Cup butter
1 Cup granulated sugar
3 eggs, beaten
3/4 cup white corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)
2 tablespoons Kentucky bourbon

Cream butter and add sugar gradually. Add beaten eggs, corn syrup, salt and vanilla, mix. Add chocolate chips, nuts, and bourbon. Stir until well mixed. Pour into pie crust and bake at 375 for 40-50 minutes. If crust browns rapidly, cover with foil or brown paper. Rewarm to serve.

You forgot the option "anything but pumpkin".
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Rhubarb is all but unheard of where I'm from. Seems like pumpkin and pecan are considered the indespensible pies at Thanksgiving... I mean the ones that are mandatory. My mother and grandmother make a Hershey pie (recipe is pretty old... calls for "5¢ Hershey bars") that is among my favorites. It's a very fluffy creme pie with chopped pecans.
