Like the man in the Thackeray novel said "It's doggéd as does it. It ain't thinkin' about it."
So, You are committed and tenacious.
(I am stubborn and unswerving.
They are mule-headed and intransigent. )
They are still working on the idea that there is something wrong with you, rather than something wrong with the implant?
Well, the sooner they sort that out, the better. I'm rooting for you too, even though I'm not Stateside.

I don't know what the stubborn sayings are in your native language but here is something that people often say about me:
He would cut his nose off to spite his face.
I would too. Gladly.

Re: how a deaf fluteplayer gets to hear again
jayhawk asked: is a new implant still in the planning.
the whole problem here is that NOTHING is in the planning.
YES it was diagnosed the implant is faulty (bystander)
but I wish that AB did REALLY tell the hospital they HAVE to perform the surgery.......but this they just won't do.
so, what happens is that it is left to the hospital itself, despite them now having copies of that letter with the diagnosis from january this year (can you BELIEVE it has been THIS long already!) they want to investigate further.
this has two sides (as has everything but ok)
it takes too much time and I don't hear any dates so I still have to go after things.
but THIS is the FIRST hospital that decides to do a PET scan.
if you go back in this thread to the start of the trouble,2008, beginning, then you will likely find somewhere in spring that year my own specialist said something about doing this scan.
so: more tests coming and HOPEFULLY they will TAKE THAT LETTER SERIOUS.........
I told them music is my passion and I play instruments.
he didn't even blink....but I did not hesitate to give GOOD descriptions of things i have heard music wise and what I was able to do (starting to learn to play by ear and discriminate various octaves, and mistakes or someone singing false.......).
what stings me is that if it were a normal hearing person in front of them (which I almost was, in the beginning of this sh*t) who went sudden deaf, they would hurry.....
but OKAY..........one foot in front of other, keep breathing, being stubborn and trying to learn new tunes no matter what (THAT is a tough one right now....good distraction )

Re: how a deaf fluteplayer gets to hear again
you make your own party..........................
oh oops. I am a bit ahead of things.
time for an update:
had first PET scan (soft tissues) and should have had second (bone) PET last week but thanks to our train company I did not reach the hospital.....now waiting for new appt.
yesterday I got an email from Fanny (AB) that she visited that same hospital the last week and spoke the same audiologist on my case.
he commented they are taking it all VERY seriously and want to first of all, map out everything carefully (tests etc) before deciding.
Fanny thought this sounded hopeful.
whats nice, is that she told me: CHAPEAU! for how I am currently handling things. nice to read.
now onto more happy news.......I have found out a way to keep using my Ipod! By turning the volume levels down (which are programmable) I can then use the normal volume shuffle button again!! I keep it way down but its lovely to listen half an hour now and then.
and I am playing daily at least one hour, I did discover things that really give me the idea there is still hope, and am very surprised whats still possible even now....
what makes me even happier, because you got to make your own party......is that I have been able to fulfill a dream and bought an antique 8 key Keith Prowse on ebay which is now off to USA to be restored by Jon C Facebookers better keep an eye out....will arrive soon.... its portrait is on my desktop screen and it makes me grin every time I start my puter.....talk about motivating myself and keep myself going!!!! isn't this the nicest thing to do???

Re: how a deaf fluteplayer gets to hear again
you DEFINITELY should hear the latest.......
now I have had two scans, last one two weeks back.
Today I went to the hospital for the results.
They simply told me THEY ARE NOT GONNA DO ANYTHING, so NO SURGERY because they saw NO POINT to replace the implant.
The arguments were the scan results were OK, and THUS no inflammation (that there would be no INFECTION, what was the purpose of the scan , fine then but no inflammation is not said as I have all the symptoms) , plus they THOUGHT replacing the implant would NOT help me, and the risks would be too big (no reason for the latter, no bigger risks than if it would be a first time surgery) plus the surgeon who performed the original surgery used a different "technique" in their eyes (the surgery technique itself actually is THE VERY SAME EVERYWHERE except the original surgeon had three dimensional rontgen pics for more exact placement).
To make a long story short......I sat there, listening to what I was being told and trying not to totally flip out, stay reasonable and heard myself ask if they could forward me then to the orginal surgeon (who is notw in a different hospital anyways) as they THOUGHT it was HIS responsibility..............
oh and today it was exactly THREE YEARS ago that the thing was placed in my skull.
when I left the hospital together with my eldest daughter who was luckily with me, I felt DEVASTATED.
we went to sit and dine somewehere and have a few wines and a cognac afterwards.
then I went home.
I..........

OK, Berti, time to plot your revenge.
Oh, and I'd say to still keep plugging away at them; you just need to find the right weaponry. I had a bit of a fight with my bank and asked them what slogan they preferred for the picketing.

Re: how a deaf fluteplayer gets to hear again
another day.
when I woke up in the morning, I was WIDE AWAKE because the first thing that dawned to me was what happened yesterday.
have been crying a lot this morning.......and wondering HOW, for whateversake (fill in, gods, heavens, whatever you like) am I supposed to keep believing in the good and carry on?
if it looks like sh*t, and it smells like sh*t, it probably IS sh*t.
no, I won't do anything stupid like jump in front of trains or off buildings, hang myself or cut my wrists or take poison.
rest assured.
but, but....
