Gordon Galloway Regulators

Post by boyd »

Fans and clients will already know this.....

Gordon is now making regulators....pictures on this site in the Pictures of Your Pipes section and also on Pat D'Arcy's bespoke uilleann piping website Uilleann Obsession.

They look very nice indeed.

Neato. An interesting variation on what Cillian has done. He has, however kept the bolt-festooned Frankenstein monster bass regulator plate, which I think looks pretty cool.

I would think they are more Taylor looking than O,Brien !!.Althrough I,m not sure about all the serrated edges ,handy for cutting hemp !!

I think tayloresque rather the Taylors - just look at the photos of the Taylor set posted a few months back. The differences are obvious.

Cannot see any real similarity with Cillians work either other than the bolt heads.

IMHO they seem to have more in common with the somewhat more 'rustic' Brennan set shown on Chris Bayleys website http://www.bagpipeworld.co.uk/Gallery/Brennan.htm

That boxwood set isn't by Joe, it's by O Mealy I think, with the original double bass replaced by a tenor reg made by Ginsberg.
O Mealy pipes usually had three regs but intead of tenor/baritone/bass they were double bass/baritone/bass. See the photo on pg 165 of Irish Minstrels and Musicians to see this setup.

How? I have a bunch of stuff I'd love to do that with. If it involves less than a bajillion dollars worth of tech, I'd love to know.

Thanks,

J

It's actually kind of strange how Joe jumped right past D on his pipes. He played that old C# O Mealy set for years, then went to a set of his own make in E flat, then started making and playing sets in E natural! I suppose he's gone up to F now.

I just used my stereo's turntable and amp, plugging the line output into my sound card's (sound blaster live) line input, used a sound recording and editing program to cut and amplify individual tracks, then encoded them to ogg vorbis format.
