Judging from his website, and the photographs provided, fit and finish is gorgeous. Mr. Rutzen has not provided audio samples that demonstrate what his pipes sound like. Flat recordings of his instruments, in the hands of a good player, could be very helpful in coming to any conclusions, for those who are not able to experience them directly.

I purchased a set of Rutzen D smallpipes in 1996. They've been played often and I still have them. I've used them (nearly) all around the world. The chanter reed is going quite well and it's about time for new drone reed blades.
The workmanship is first-rate. I like the D set so much that I commissioned a silver A/D set in 2001.
PM me if you want any more information.
