Recently went back to the way of the double-edged safety razor. Got fed up with the far greater waste of disposables, basically. And hey - it's retro charm. Like me.

Me too. I dug out my old Gillette Super Adjustable black handle, and it works great.

Beard trimmer. Now also used without the guard in preference to a bladed razor for anything I want to look 'clean'.

I'd say that counts as an Electric, and I've changed the poll accordingly. I've also allowed re-voting (changing vote).

Oh no, no. My face and neck still have lots of shaving real estate. Sorry to disappoint.

Please. I'm not that invested. But of course I'm curious. MTGuru talking about using razors - that's about as rare as hen's teeth.

But have now!

So tempted to choose 'Sword/machete/axe', but it just wouldn't be true (nearest would be scissors before I discovered trimmers)!

That's true. One of those scissoring-type clippers/trimmers would be truly old school.

While the sample size isn't huge, I'm surprised at how retro we all appear to be, although I suppose we're mostly of a certain age these days. I use a safety razor, mostly beause I dislike being ripped of by the shaving monopoly. Although I still am; they inflate the price of razorblades by about 500% to keep the price closer to all the patent systems. I taught myself to shave with a straight razor at one point, but that seemed a bit like overkill. I also use a brush and a cake of shaving soap for the same reasons, and because of the sheer waste involved in the cans and sprays.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

I inherited a shiny new in-the-wrapper pair of manual sheep shears, fercryinoutloud. We have never been into sheep, so I don't know why it's even there. Haven't used it yet and don't know if I will, but I keep it around because it's retro. Not surprisingly, there's more.

And I remember those manual trimmers. Used one on someone's head, once. I thought it was a dandy little contrivance.

Well, there does seem to be a back-to-basics movement underway in shaving (and in other things; I have my theories), and it's not necessarily age dependent. So I'm curious what a population of musicians with no natural correlation to interest in shaving is doing.

In my case, I just went back to doing what I did before the whole multi-blade cartridge thing came along. The razor is my dad's that I inherited from him back around 1975.

I also use mug soap and a brush and lathering bowl when I have the time and patience. Otherwise sometimes just bar soap (but a nice Canadian-made goat's milk soap at the moment). And sometimes good old Barbasol, which I like a lot. In fact, it just won the Gawker reader's choice for favorite shaving cream, beating Proraso and other fancier, more expensive goos.

This afternoon I spent some time cleaning, stropping and oiling some used DE blades and Fusion cartridges, as an experiment to see if this really will extend their useful life. Only the impending blood loss will tell ...

And what did he think when he woke up from his drunken stupor to find "NANO" carved in his scalp?
