Forget the lathe, get a MakerBot replicator with the optional scanner head and copy away. Apparently that is all the rage. :D

And if you don't have internet access, you can't participate in the Chiffboard.

What we've agreed to is a Web Directory. By definition, that limits it to makers with a web or internet presence, and users with internet access. If you want to maintain a different kind of list in a different format somewhere else for everyone else, have at it.

And if it's going to be subjected to this kind of casuistry before it's even off the ground, we're happy to scrap the whole thing.

Trying to be constructive here... is there really a problem with listing makers who've only got postal addresses and phone numbers? (Some of whom probably have web access and maybe even read the board but just don't have sites.)

FWIW, I think those without sites or at least email addresses are making things more difficult for themselves and their customers and am personally far less likely to contact them, but don't see that as being incompatible with inclusion in a web directory so long as they can be contacted somehow and the listing says how.

PS (edited) also have no axe to grind here because I've no real need for the list myself.

Understood. But let's avoid critiquing something that does not yet exist. The way we will handle outlying exceptions will be clear soon enough.

Pfft. I've dragged whole sessions down, tied them up, and held them hostage.

OK, the new WMD (WhistleMakers Directory) is up. :)

You can use this thread for discussion of the list. For updates to the list, see the instructions in the Sticky thread itself.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and comments.

Wonderful! THANK YOU for putting in the time and trouble to make it happen!

It's a fantastic resource for everyone, particularly people new to whistles.

I wish something like that had been around when I started playing. No internet then and newbies were more or less on their own and in the dark.

I just thought of something: what about people who are strictly interested in Low D Whistles? Yes I know somebody can go through all the links and search all the sites to discover which makers make Low D's and which don't, but a nice resource would be a Low D maker's list (LWMD). Someone with knowledge could cut & paste that list out of the WMD in a few minutes, saving others hours of searching.

That's an idea. I'd think in terms of simply tagging those makers who include a least a low D in their line. But let's wait until things settle down a bit. Thanks!

I like that the bass clef is positioned correctly as seen from the back. :)
