The Green Fields of Canada

Post by Redwolf »

Does anyone out there have a midi of this song? It doesn't have to be in a key accessible to the whistle (in fact, as it modulates all over the place, that might be a bit challenging!). It can be just the air, or the air with the words...it honestly doesn't matter.

I'm learning this song in a class I'm taking, and my mind has lost track of the tune completely.

Go raibh míle maith agaibh, a chairde! That's exactly what I was looking for!

I tried Googling on the title the other day, but couldn't come up with a site that would let me listen to it for free.

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

I LOVE that tune! I play it on the pipes quite a bit; a bit differently from the MIDI on BigDavey's link, but that's the one. Great piping tune.

Great song. I am partial to Planxty's version.

Hi JES

I prefer Deanta's version myself.

It's a gorgeous song to sing, but challenging.

That is indeed a lovely tune..I like Deanta's version as well. You might like this lovely song as well ..The Scottish Settler's Lament. The Tannahill Weavers version is beautiful.

I have both Scottish and Irish ancestors who came to Canada so both work for me...

Scarborough Settler's Lament

Hi Moonlight

Try listening to Stan Roger's version of the song - he calls it Scarborough Settlers lament, I think it is by far the best version.

Is that done to the same tune? It doesn't seem to scan properly, and the words are quite different.

Stan was a mighty musician, singer and songwriter. He is my favorite folkie of them all. Miss him greatly.
