I finally have figured out all the technology involved in posting images...
Here are my flutes and a couple of my recorders (only the hand-made ones).
From top to bottom:
renaissance flute in g by Tardino
renaissance flute in d by Tardino
Beukers by Polak
H. Grenser by Aurin
Nicholson by Olwell
Denner by Boudreau
"Ganassi" c-soprano by Boudreau
"Ganassi" g-alto by Boudreau.
The Olwell is less than a week old and my new baby. I ordered it with the D# key to go with my early flutes, but Patrick sent along a regular long foot without key too. I guess he's worried I'll look out of place at a session with a 1-key Irish flute. The longer foot has an elegance to it, but I like the bit of bling the silver key provides. Now if I just had the time to get used to that great huge embouchure hole I'm sure it would sound lovely

(I'll get around to changing that soon, I'm sure)

Here is my new Hammy D in blackwood and sliver.
It is a well travelled flute - from Miltown Malbay to Gunma in Japan, and now down to the foot of Mt. Fuji.
(BTW The book under the flute is Fliúit by June McCormack. It has some great tunes.)

Well, Akiba, thanks for the kind words! It was a really long time coming for an impatient chap such as myself and I really busted the gig piggy bank but I think it was worth it and don't see myself parting with them anytime soon, if ever.Akiba wrote:Let's see, Liney, here are words that come to mind: envious, jealous, covetous, insanely sick, phenomenal, outrageous, lucky dog, well-deserved I'm sure. Congrats--what an ax(es). Olwell D, C, Eflat=Heaven? Probably...
The Eb just feels like a toy! A beautiful toy, but just a tiny, tiny little doll's flute. It's amazing to look at, being just so damned tiny, and then I lean into it and, lo and behold, it sounds like Jesus and God wrasslin' and a'fistfightin', it's so friggin' powerful. The low D on the D body reminds me of a hippo getting kicked in the balls by a rhino and the low C, well, it just about makes me show my O! face! Oh!
Well deserved, well...I don't know about that, but lucky dog (and patient dog) are certainly apropos.
You may have to kiss a few frogs, but you'll find your magic flute love if you keep at it.
cheers,
Gordon

What an amazing a capella group this would be.
You know, I've never thought about what a hippo being kicked in the balls by a rhino would sound like, but now I'm kinda curious, hmm...maybe something like-- .

Hi Gabriel,Gabriel wrote:I like the shape of that Forbes. I'd love to try one.
The Cochran also looks pretty - so slim! Perfect for my short fingers.
the Forbes is really stunning. Love to play it although I own it for just one week. Sounds very reedy and you get that sound quite comfortably.
About the Cochran: it measures about 26mm at C# and 25mm at E. Is that really slim?
Cheers,
Moritz

Currently on eBay, a VERY pretty leftie flute by Astor - boxwood (tasty!) 6-key (no long F or long C) - early C19th. I've posted it on my thread about flutes with "claw" interlocked low C/C# keys too, as some of you may have seen.
From the bumf on eBay it looks like it is probably a bit lower than modern pitch, but hey, it's droolable!

I respect people's privilege to hold their beliefs, whatever those may be (within reason), but respect the beliefs themselves? You gotta be kidding!

Here's my new (to me) 3 key Lehart in F:
I neglected to take any pictures of my C flute when I received it last summer:
