Re: Posting clips
A couple of jigs that I love playing. I seem to have lost track of the A and B parts on the second one.... I was playing around some holding notes, not particularly in time. Oh well.....next attempt.

Good work, Arbo. Outstanding timing/rhythm. Do you play with a tick-track from headphones? Good tone too.

Thanks. And, nope... the only thing I play to are the loose bits rattling around in my head.drewr wrote:ImNotIrish wrote:A couple of jigs that I love playing. Re: Posting clips
Only a month? New to the flute? Well, I think you have a bright future. I enjoyed your clip. Like the phrasing, choice of tune. Tone, tuning...that will come. I think the fact that you have a 'feeling' for the music is paramount. Look forward to hearing more. By the way, I am going to learn that air.Wanderer wrote:I got a Dixon flute about a month ago at NTIF.

Yer doin' well Greg!
I do have to say that, in my opinion, you need to straighten out your right wrist. (You don't bend it that way when playing whistle)
What it looks like to me is that you've turned in your head joint and are now turning it back out by bending your wrist back. (note: this has always been my issue with the turn the embouchure hole in crowd)
Play just the headjoint.
Find where your lips and the embouchure hole need to be.
Address each tenon as you add parts (put the left hand section where the left hand is happy with the head joint where it was in relationship with your lips)
Play with it for a bit. Look at the alignment when you're done.

It's dizzying, the possibilities. Ashes, Ashes all fall down.

So, not new to the music. Still, I like the interpretation. I am not going to comment about tone, etc. Based on the first couple of listens, I did identify what I saw as strong elements in the playing.

I'm sure that he knows what he wants.
He'll just be a while building the muscles and control is all!

I was trying to be supportive. I know all to well what's it like to be flailing along on one's own.

("tenon", I think you meant - though you were on about human rather than flutish anatomy a bit later on....)
I respect people's privilege to hold their beliefs, whatever those may be (within reason), but respect the beliefs themselves? You gotta be kidding!

Re: Posting clips
Yeah, I turned the headjoint back out a few days ago and found it a bit more comfortable. I think my biggest reason I tend to hold the flute that way is that the flute feels insecure in my grip, so I tend to try to bend the wrist a bit to 'cradle' it..i'm working on better grip all the time. I'll figure it out eventually..Denny wrote:easy there Arbo...he's a ringer http://www.youtube.com/user/gmahan#p/a/u/2/8B7ofJmcJV0

I wouldn't really call myself a 'ringer', though

I've heard humility bein' praised somewhere or other.
Yer allowed to use your lower little finger to help.....above E anyhow
It isn't that much of a trick to get used to putting it down as ya get to the higher notes in the octave and pickin' it back up at the bottom. (given how much the 3rd finger wants to be with it) Some if us use 3 & 4 to stabilize the flute from C# to A or so. Sir James bein' one of 'em & he's on Boehm what ain't near as rollish as simple system.

Here's a couple of jigs played on my Dave Copley. Thread seems pretty quiet lately.
